Sunshine and Snoopy
Annelise does not like to have her hair brushed, AT ALL. She is very tender-headed and so there is always drama and fussing and lots of yelling "Ouch!" and "Mama, that hurts! It really does hurt! No, I don't want a shorter hair cut but I cannot stop fussing because it HUUURRRTTTSSSS OUCH!!" at hair brushing time. Carson has always observed this daily interaction with quiet interest. Yesterday, right before we left to go pick Annelise up from school, I grabbed a brush and ran it through his crazy hair in a weak and useless attempt to control the wild-Albert Einstein-baby mullet-look that Carson sports. As soon as the brush touched his head he looked up at me and grinned. "Ouch." He said, smiling proudly. Because you know, that's what you are supposed to say when your hair is being brushed.
Last week, Annelise and I decided to make brownies. As we were making them, Carson started crying because he couldn't see what we were doing and he felt left out. Annelise went and got him a stool and he stood perfectly still, amazed, watching her stir. I smiled at my happy, quiet, sweet children. I turned around (for 2.3 seconds) to spray the brownie pan. When I turned back around, Carson had shoved his hand up to his wrist in brownie batter. I watched, frozen, as Annelise briefly considered turning around to tell me what had happened, and then decided instead to get in on the action. They had the best time. They were covered in brownie batter.
It was a huge mess. But they were having so much fun that I just grabbed the camera and started snapping pictures. For those of you who have a raw egg issue. I know it's bad for them but seriously, they're fine. The slim risk of whatever illness they could've acquired from the eggs was far out weighed by the sound of their laughter.
Annelise started soccer last week. Her first game was Saturday and she loved it. She defiantly ran towards the wrong goal once or twice, and she was tired. But she had so much fun. Matt loves it too. After the game he took her out and bought her a brand new (purple sparkly, he is so wrapped around her finger) soccer ball and they are always outside practicing. It's so cute. He actually left work early yesterday so we could go to the park so they could practice. She spent way more time on the play ground than on the soccer field. We had a blast.
Saturday night, our eight year old niece Mazzy, who Annelise adores, came over and spent the night with us. Annelise was so happy to have a sleep over. They went to bed at 11:00 and got up at 6:30. They watched a movie. They went downstairs. They played hide and seek for hours. Annelise was in heaven.
Carson says "Mama" now. It's amazing and wonderful and I am so happy. He started saying it on Saturday. I walked in the door from going to get the kids some spring clothes and he ran for me and said, "Mama!!!" My heart melted.
Carson had a little seizure yesterday, and then a short episode of right side facial paralysis last night, but he got over it quickly and seems just fine today. I was about to put him down for his nap a few minutes ago and I said, "Uh-oh buddy, I can't find your nini." He looked at me with this very serious expression on his face and said, "mama, oh no!" It was so cute. He is so smart.
